This year's theme 'The Animated Environment' will explore all aspects of the animated, with a special emphasis on animated worlds, spaces, environments, and experiences.
We will examine animation’s relevance to global environmental and spatial concerns such as borders, the riparian, world building, ecology, symbiosis, sustainability, and climate change. Rowan University hopes to gather together animation scholars and practitioners from around the world in celebration of all things animated. |
Rowan University is a public research university located in Glassboro, NJ. It is conveniently situated within 18 miles of the historic city of Philadelphia and just two hours from both New York City and Washington, DC. Conference attendees will be in close proximity to some of the greatest cities in the U.S. for art, history, and creative economies.
Under the theme 'The Animated Environment' we invite proposals that look both outside and inside the traditional boundaries of animation. We seek to engage in dialogs concerning animated environments and ecologies in all their forms, from AI and machine learning, immersive environments, small file formats, environmental art, animated spaces, kinetic sculpture, to climate change, geography, conservation, and ecology. Through the theme we hope to envision a world that goes beyond the traditional boundaries of the animated form and explore innovative practices that work to expand and develop animation approaches that are proactive, engaged, and informed.
